Our mission is to foster the overall success of Ӱ Black students by creating a robust community of support that includes Black alumni and the Long Beach Black community. We aim to re-establish and strengthen connections with Black alumni, engaging them in a dynamic support network for Black Scholars through workshops, internships, donations, and networking opportunities.

Program Outlines:

  1. Enhanced Financial Literacy: Ӱ will gain a better understanding of financial concepts such as budgeting, saving, investing, and managing debt. This foundational knowledge helps them make informed financial decisions.
  2. Improved Communication Skills: Ӱ will enhance their ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups of people, including peers, professionals, and community leaders. This includes both verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  3. Increased Cultural Competence and Community Awareness: By engaging with different communities and participating in various events, students will develop a deeper understanding of cultural diversity and social issues. This awareness fosters empathy and a sense of social responsibility.
  4. Expanded Professional Network: Ӱ will build and expand their professional network, which can lead to mentorship opportunities, internships, job offers, and collaborations. Networking helps students understand the importance of relationships in professional growth.

Why We Want You to Join our Community. The old Igbo and Yoruba African proverb that says, “It takes a village to raise a child” is a staple of the Black community. It means that an entire community of people must invest in our young people to help them to flourish in a safe and healthy environment. Villagers look out for and support our children. It is how we survive and thrive. The larger our community, the stronger our voice. Come join the fight to remove barriers for our students of color and provide more access and retention.

Members will receive:

  • Monthly updates that share our trials and triumphs
  • Invitations to participate in our celebrations and community events
  • Access to our community business list so we can support each other

"If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." ~ African proverb
