Dr. Sandra Pérez comes to ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ as the new University Honors Program Director. She joins us with 6 years of experience as honors director and 15 years of experience as Coordinator of the Latin American Studies Program at ÃÛÌÒÓ°ÏñState University, Fullerton (CSUF). She is a professor of Spanish and Latin American Studies, has published numerous articles on Latin American narrative, as well as participated in many national and international conferences. She joined the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) Board of Directors in 2021 and participates in the NCHC Diversity and Inclusion Committee as well as the Committee reviewing Honors Basic Characteristics documents. Summer 2020, she joined the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) Honors Council and Committee Against Structural Racism. She has been an active member of the National Society for Minorities in Honors (NSFMIH) and hosted the 2019 conference in California. She has also served diverse graduate students as a faculty mentor, as the Pre-Doctoral Fellowship advisor, and as the Project UpGrads Faculty Coordinator for Student Support. Dr. Pérez is passionate about helping diverse students discover their intellectual and academic goals while pursuing their professional aspirations and is looking forward to supporting your academic journey.

Vincent earned a Masters in Educational psychology from ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ.  His experience in higher education ranges from coordinating placement exams, first-year transition programs, study skill workshops, academic intervention programs, graduate school preparation courses, academic advising, and scholarships.   

Vincent completed his undergraduate education at ÃÛÌÒÓ°ÏñState University, Fullerton (CSUF), where he pursued a BA in Psychology. In undergrad he conducted and presented research under different faculty members with topics including anxiety, information re-call, and auditory perception.

Vincent strives to assist students in reaching their full potential and looks forward in working with you.

Cherell Johnson-Davis

Dr. Cherell Johnson-Davis, Associate Director

Cherell Johnson-Davis comes to CSU, Long Beach as the Associate Director for Leadership and Engagement. She is originally from St. Louis, MO. She earned her BA in Communication Studies from Fontbonne University and her MA and Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Saint Louis University. As a first-generation, underrepresented, low-income college student, she developed a passion for helping others through their college experiences and journeys. Her previous experience includes working with Educational Opportunity Programs (McNeill Academic Program and TRiO Student Support Services) and teaching Leadership Studies courses at the University of Colorado-Boulder. She looks forward to providing effective and transformative programming options to further develop UHP student leadership.

Mitzi Rosales is a first-generation college graduate who is passionate about giving back and supporting students succeed in their college career. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from ÃÛÌÒÓ°ÏñState University, Long Beach and a Masters of Science in College Counseling from ÃÛÌÒÓ°ÏñState University, Dominguez Hills.

Mitzi has experience working in outreach and advising at the High School, Community College, Public and Private 4-year Universities, Non-profit and Charter School sectors. Through these opportunities she has worked with diverse and underrepresented groups of students such as first-generation, low-income, opportunity youth, veterans, and most recently the Inland Empire Native American Community. She looks forward to bringing her experience and passion for supporting students to the University Honors Program.

Fabiola Mendoza

Fabiola Mendoza attended Cal Poly Humboldt (formerly Humboldt State University) where she earned a BA in Psychology and a minor in Multicultural Queer Studies. As a first-generation and low-income student, she was a part of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) during her time at Humboldt. Most recently, she has earned her MS in Counseling with an emphasis in Student Development in Higher Education from CSU Long Beach.

Fabiola has experience supporting students through her work with programs such as the Educational Opportunity Program, TRIO Student Support Services, the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program, and the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship program. As someone who believes in the values of community and care within educational institutions, she is interested in providing holistic student-centered support to assist students in demystifying and navigating their college experience.

Crystal Sanchez

Crystal Sanchez, Administrative Support Coordinator

Crystal has a diverse background in administrative support and office management. Crystal comes from the College of Human Health Services where she worked for the Dean’s office as a human resources coordinator. Before joining CSU Long Beach, she served as a legal secretary at a law firm specializing in estate law. Currently, Crystal is a student at Long Beach City College, aiming to transfer and earn her B.A. in Nutrition and Dietetics. Born and raised in Long Beach, she is deeply passionate about her local community. 

Crystal is dedicated to empowering CSU Long Beach students, particularly those in the Honors program, by providing essential resources, support, and a sense of community. Her goal is to create a positive and enriching experience for every student, helping them thrive both academically and personally.
