Cybersecurity Threat and Response

With the ever-increasing threats of cybercrimes and universities being prime targets of phishing scams, passwords alone are no longer enough.  For greater threat protection, ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ will be implementing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), also known as Two-Step verification, on January 27 for students and March 24 for faculty and staff.

How bad is it really?

  • 1054 Percent increase in  compromised ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ email accounts from 2019 to 2020. Compromises likely due to phishing.
  • 39 A cyberattack occurs every 39 seconds according to research by University of Maryland.
  • 81 Percent of security breaches are due to weak or stolen passwords according to LastPass.

What are the benefits of MFA?

  • Deter unauthorized access to University resources
  • Reduce compromised accounts leading to mass campus phishing scams
  • Improve protection for campus systems and sensitive data
