Build Community
- Be a model of a diverse, equitable, and respectful community of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and administrators.
- Foster a community of belonging where everyone’s voice and well-being are valued.
- Create an intentional environment where all members of the campus community experience the joy of intellectual pursuits, purposeful work, and meaningful opportunities for self and professional development.
- Open the university campus to collaborative partnerships, especially with the City of Long Beach, that create new cultural, intellectual, and economic value for the region and beyond.
On our campus, community is at the forefront of strategic planning, advancement, and intellect. Community is everywhere – it’s uniquely fostered across all disciplines at The Beach. Today, our communal efforts continue to sculpt our students into the empathetic and compassionate leaders of tomorrow.
In the College of Health and Human Services, roughly 1,700 partnerships that engage students, faculty, staff, and the broader Long Beach community bolster the college’s place as a leader in student achievement and enhancing community connections. Meaningful collaborations are central to our success as an institution, and CHHS is innovating new ways to leverage shared goals that elevate ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ, its constituents, and the community at large.
Working often behind the scenes to ensure the daily success of our campus operations and student experiences, staff play an indispensable role in The Beach community. That’s why supporting opportunities for their professional development is an investment in the well-being of our entire university.
Supporting a compassionate community is a pillar of our value system at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ and a shared mission we aim to achieve.
Each day at The Beach, we find ways to lead this effort by cultivating an intentional environment where all members of campus feel valued and supported, so we can be true innovators and models of a diverse, equitable, and respectful campus community for all.
To help fulfill ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ’s longstanding commitment to fully support cultural resource centers on campus, efforts are underway to fund new staff positions and identify a permanent space where these centers can succeed at The Beach. The team behind efforts to fortify ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ as a student-ready university is leading this charge, and through their work, The Beach is reimagining how these resources can best serve the students of today.
At ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ, we strive to lean on data-driven practices to inform our decisions about the future. That’s no different when it comes to making smart and impactful choices to enhance student outcomes.
With the goal of institutionalizing strategies that eliminate the negative impacts of cultural taxation among ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ staff and faculty, a new initiative is seeking to understand these effects on our workforce and, ultimately, overcome them.
Ensuring all students, alumni, and families receive the most up-to-date and essential information about the university is at the forefront of efforts to unify ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ’s many distinct communities. Robust relationships with on-campus and community partners are sustained through these communications, and continuously pave the way for student opportunity and growth.
At its core, our mission to build community at Cal State Long Beach centers on cultivating a sense of belonging, shared governance, and shared responsibility.
