Dr. Karyn Scissum Gunn joined ÃÛÌÒÓ°ÏñState University, Long Beach as Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs in July 2021. As the chief academic officer for the institution, the provost provides leadership for all academic matters at the university. The provost oversees the quality of academic processes and works to ensure faculty quality and advancement via her leadership. The provost also works to increase student retention, promote student engagement and active learning, and ensure that students achieve their educational goals. The provost reports to the president and acts on the president’s behalf in her absence.

Dr. Dhushy Sathianathan provides leadership and resources for the quality of academic programs, academic facilities, institutional research, and enrollment services as well as budgetary allocations in support of academic priorities. He is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and a leader in academic affairs with extensive experience organizing and leading institution-wide initiatives in strategic planning, enrollment management, budget & planning, institutional research, and graduation initiatives. In her role as Interim Vice Provost, Dr. Pei-Fang Hung is responsible for all matters of academic program planning, educational policy, curriculum review, and institutional/programmatic assessment. She works closely with all academic deans and associate deans, faculty, and the of the Academic Senate. Since 2021, Dr. Patricia Pérez has served as the Associate Dean for Faculty in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at ÃÛÌÒÓ°ÏñState University, Fullerton. She has extensive experience providing training and guidance on implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion practices into retention and promotion standards. Dr. Pérez earned the bachelor’s degree in Chicana/o Studies, and the M.A. and the Ph.D. in Higher Education and Organizational Change from University of California, Los Angeles. Academic Advising
Dr. Kerry Johnson is responsible for the oversight of undergraduate programs and academic support, including the University Honors Program, the Center for Community Engagement, tutoring, advising, dual enrollment, and the Graduate Writing Assessment Requirement. She works closely with the General Education Governing Committee to review courses and to make any changes to the General Education Program. As Associate Vice President for Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Johnson also collaborates with faculty and the associate deans to implement appropriate academic support for introductory co-requisite and stretch courses within the GE Program. Under the leadership of the Dr. Barbara Taylor, the Office of Research & Economic Development at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ serves the University community by creating a campus environment that is conducive to ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñresearch and other scholarly activities that contribute to the mission of the University. With a primary emphasis on faculty-student research engagement, Dr. Taylor provides leadership, information, direction, resources, training and technical assistance to faculty and students engaged in externally funded research, instruction, community service and other scholarly activities.

Under the direction of Dr. Shariq Ahmed, Academic Technology Services leads the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ campus in leveraging technology that effectively supports instruction, creates learning environments, and supports campus staff to foster student success. Dr. Ahmed delivers and supports educational technology to the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ campus community by using innovative practices and technologies to develop effective and accessible solutions for a continually evolving educational landscape.

International Education and Global Engagement
Under the direction of Dr. Jeet Joshee, the Office of International Education and Global Engagement (IEGE) is responsible for fulfilling the university’s global mission to engage students, scholars, faculty, and staff in various international education activities. His primary task is to assist ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ students in graduating with the knowledge and cultural competency needed to take global leadership and service roles. Additionally, Dr. Joshee advises the President and Provost on emerging trends in international education, so that the university can align its global mission accordingly to serve the campus community.
