Previous Projects: Cambodian Tobacco Research Initiative
The Department of Health Science at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ and the Cambodian Association of America in Long Beach received a $106,456 pilot Community Academic Research Award (CARA) from the Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program (TRDRP), which resulted in the development of an academic/community collaborative partnership called the Cambodian Tobacco Research Initiative (CTRI). The research addressed three major issues with respect to tobacco use among the Cambodian American population in Long Beach, CA:
- Patterns of tobacco use
- Factors that influence smoking patterns
- Smoking prevention strategies

The Department of Health Science received a three-year $664,425 Community Academic Research Award (CARA) from the Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program to continue the Cambodian Tobacco Research Initiative (CTRI), an ongoing collaborative effort between the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Department of Health Science and the Cambodian Association of America in Long Beach. This academic/community collaborative partnership examined the prevalence of cigarette smoking among Cambodian American adults in Long Beach, CA.
