ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Department of Family and Consumer Sciences

Hospitality Management prepares students to work in one of the largest segments of the service industry. Employees in this field are involved in planning, organizing, directing and evaluating commercial and noncommercial foodservice and hotel/lodging operations. They are responsible for ensuring customer-oriented decision making with regard to food, beverage, and accommodation preferences, and for marketing services while controlling costs. Day to day activities in the field include: recruiting, hiring, and training foodservice and lodging employees; planning menus, meetings, and catering functions; purchasing food and lodging supplies, maintaining safety and sanitation standards, ensuring customer satisfaction; and responding to customer/ community needs. The duties depend in part on the size and type of the organization.
