Career Profiles: Finance
Within the Department of Finance through the College of Business Administration, the study of finance may be pursued through one of two options. The financial management option focuses on the manager's attempt to maximize the value of the firm by directing the firm's dealings with money. Both money market (short term) and capital market (long term) issues are addressed. Forecasting financial needs and investment decisions are extremely important and often determine the success or failure of a firm. An understanding of investments at both the corporate and personal level is the objective of the investments concentration. The option in investments emphasizes the individual's attempt to maximize his/her net worth through the study of stocks, bonds, and other investment vehicles. Within these concentrations, students are provided with an opportunity to gain an understanding of the role of the various aspects of law in a business context, including the development of a comprehension of business ethics.
